$59.00

esamorelin is a synthetic peptide medication that mimics your body's natural growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Instead of being growth hormone itself, it stimulates the pituitary gland to release more of your own growth hormone, which in turn increases levels of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1).

What is it approved for?

In the United States, tesamorelin (brand name Egrifta WR) is FDA-approved only for:

  • Reducing excess visceral (deep abdominal) fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy.

It is not approved for:

  • General weight loss

  • Obesity treatment

  • Anti-aging

  • Bodybuilding or athletic performance enhancement

How does it work?

Tesamorelin follows this pathway:

  1. Stimulates GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland.

  2. Increases natural pulses of growth hormone (GH).

  3. Raises IGF-1 levels.

  4. Promotes breakdown of visceral fat, the fat surrounding internal organs.

Unlike injected human growth hormone, tesamorelin works by encouraging your body to produce its own GH.

Potential benefits

For its approved use, studies have shown it can:

  • Reduce visceral abdominal fat

  • Improve body composition

  • Sometimes improve certain metabolic markers, though long-term cardiovascular benefits have not been established.

Researchers are also studying tesamorelin for conditions such as:

  • Fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH)

  • Cognitive impairment

  • Age-related metabolic changes

However, these uses remain investigational and are not FDA-approved.

Common side effects

Reported side effects include:

  • Joint pain

  • Swelling (fluid retention)

  • Muscle aches

  • Injection-site reactions

  • Increased blood sugar or reduced insulin sensitivity

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome in some people

Who should not use it?

Tesamorelin is contraindicated in people with:

  • Active cancer

  • Pregnancy

  • Certain disorders affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary axis

  • Serious allergy to the medication or its ingredients

Why is it popular in fitness and longevity circles?

Although not approved for these purposes, tesamorelin is discussed because it may:

  • Increase natural GH secretion

  • Reduce visceral rather than subcutaneous fat

  • Potentially improve recovery or body composition
